Listening for God: Story Listening and Reflection

A project of the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming

God’s Kingdom, God’s family, is everywhere if we only have the eyes to see, and the ears to hear God’s presence in our world!

Two questions for storytelling and reflection:

  • Who is the family?
  • How do they show God's activity in the world?

And two questions about hospitality:
  • How does this story show inclusivity?
  • How does this story show exclusivity>

Most of my contact with others is through online essays, blog posts, classes, etc. There are many out in the cyberworld who are looking for Christians to speak of the love they have for Christ and how it makes a difference in my life. Mostly they hear the "mean" stuff about Christianity -- we need to counter that message and challenge the view of God as punisher.

AFFIRMATION

AFFIRMATION

Linda Wilson’s story of affirmation made me think of something that happened to me two days before our Evangelism conference call. My young adult daughter, who is trying to make it on her own in the world (and who has difficulties managing her life for a variety of reasons) called me on my cell phone while I was visiting a patient in the hospital. Ministry Developers spend a lot of time on the road away from home. There isn’t much traffic on WY roads and the scenery is courtesy of the Great Landscaper. Awesome!!! An audiobook, Sirius radio and the wildlife sightings make it almost painless — except for leaving ones favorite pet behind. Leaving Fido behind isn’t so bad when they stay in their own bed, home with ones spouse; but some of us are married to another Ministry Developer who is also on the roa… Continue

Uh..oh...

Two Sundays ago, as a part of my summer of evangelism, I was scheduled to preach at St. Mark’s in Cheyenne. Cheyenne is just close enough that I decided to get up early Sunday morning (4a.m.!) and drive down for their 8 a.m. service. The trip went faster than I had anticipated so arriving early I decided to fill up the car with gas so I would be all ready for the return trip. It would have been a good idea except…. I locked my keys in the car!! I had my purse but everything else – my vestments,… Continue

a story from Kay

I have lived in my neighborhood for a while now, and have watched some of the kids from the time they were toddlers. There are quite a few kids in my neighborhood. They are the kind of neighbor kids who want to know the whats and whys of things that happen in our house - like who is going to eat all that chocolate ice cream, and why does your dog bark, and why does your son have a beard. These are the kind of kids who bring their siblings and their cousins and friends, and then sit around waitin… Continue
